🏠 What Is Radon?

Radon is a colorless, odorless radioactive gas that naturally forms from the breakdown of uranium in soil and rock. It can seep into your home through cracks and openings in the foundation, where it builds up and becomes a health risk.

⚠️ Why Is Radon Dangerous?

Radon is the #1 cause of lung cancer in non-smokers. It gives off radioactive particles that damage your lungs when inhaled over time. Long-term exposure increases the risk of serious illness.

🔬 The Science Behind It

  • Radon (Rn) is a noble gas and part of the radioactive decay chain of uranium.

  • It emits alpha particles — tiny, high-energy particles that can harm lung tissue when breathed in.

  • Outdoors, radon is harmless because it disperses. Indoors, it can accumulate to dangerous levels, especially in basements and lower floors.

📏 How Do We Measure Radon?

We use certified testing devices to measure radon levels in becquerels per cubic metre (Bq/m³).

  • Health Canada recommends action if levels are above 200 Bq/m³.

  • We offer both short-term (48-hour) and long-term (90-day) tests to get accurate results.

🛠️ How We Fix It (Radon Mitigation)

If your radon levels are too high, we install a Sub-Slab Depressurization (SSD) system, the gold standard in radon mitigation:

  • A pipe is inserted below your home’s foundation.

  • A quiet fan draws radon gas from the soil and vents it safely outside.

  • This keeps radon from entering your home.

Our systems are designed specifically for your home type to ensure long-term safety and air quality.

✅ Quick Facts About Radon

  • Found in 1 in 4 homes in some areas of New Brunswick.

  • You can’t see, smell, or taste it.

  • Testing is the only way to know if you have high radon.

  • Mitigation is affordable, fast, and permanent.
